One 3-hour class
Instructor: Michelle Hunter
Class level: Easy Knit

Do you constantly fuss with your cowl to hide the less attractive wrong side from view?  Turn the wrong side into a beautiful right side and fuss no more!  Design a cowl using simple stitch patterns and delightful tricks to create your own unique accessory.  Learn to pair, blend, transition, and manipulate stitch patterns for a piece that is attractive from every angle.

In class you will design your own reversible pattern with simple knit and purl stitches.  Perfect edges, harmonious stitch selection, gauge considerations, fabric drape, yardage calculation and more will be covered.  Go home with your own original pattern on the needles!

Suitable for the advanced beginner and beyond. Students must have experience knitting in the round.

Supplies needed:

  • Yarn: Approx. 200 yards, smooth worsted-weight yarn to yield cowl with 20″ circumference. Additional yarn is needed if you desire a larger cowl.
  • Needles: 16″ circular needle in appropriate size to obtain gauge of approx. 5 sts = 1″ in seed stitch.
  • Pencil, eraser and small calculator are needed.

Homework
The goal of the homework is to determine the best needle size to give you a pleasing fabric in Seed Stitch. The swatch will also be used for other calculations.  Begin the swatch with the needle size recommended for your yarn.  If the fabric looks too loose or too tight, start over with a different needle size.  Just experiment until you achieve a swatch that looks good to you and is near the stated gauge. You must bring a completed 4″ x 4″ Seed Stitch swatch to class!

You will receive Homework Instructions upon registration.
