Meet the genius of Elizabeth Zimmerman as explained and revised by her daughter, Meg Swansen, and grandson, Cully Swansen.
In this class you will create EZ’s original Baby Surprise Jacket and set the stage for knitting the jacket with stripes, fair isle patterns, and in modified sizes that will comfortably fit toddlers, children, and adults.
Skills you will learn include:
- Estimating yarn length for long-tail cast on
- Understanding the affect of full-fashion shaping and techniques to track your progress through those changes
- Picking up stitches along wrong (private) side and right (public) side of garment that mirror each other
- Joining skeins without the need to weave in tails
- Including buttons with the ability to easily adapt for male or female button plackets
Supplies needed:
- Yarn recommended for class: 350 yards of fingering-weight yarn to fit newborn (up to 3 mos).
- Needles: US 2 to US 4, straights or 24″ circular
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
Prework – please complete prior to first class: With light-colored, worsted-weight yarn, cast on 41 stitches.
There is homework between classes, so please plan accordingly.
