NAVAJO KNITTING

One 3-hour class
Instructor: Michelle Hunter
Skill level: Easy Knit
Learn the technique used to make Michelle’s latest exciting design, Ply List Sweater, published in Knit.Purl, Fall/Winter 2014 magazine.
Magically turn lace-weight yarn into worsted with Navajo knitting – also known as chain plying. Navajo knitting triple plies yarn from a single skein without cutting or dividing the skein. This is a perfect use for that large skein of lace yarn hiding in your stash or that cone of hand spun that is begging to the knit!
The class covers the basics of the technique plus learning to alternate triple and single plies within a project to create sheer stripes – a big trend in todays’ fashion.
Discover ways to incorporate this technique in many knitting projects. In class, we will begin a beautiful scarf pattern using all techniques learned in class. WARNING: this is addicting!
Supplies needed:
- Yarn 1: smooth DK-weight yarn, at least 50 yards
- Yarn 2: Tosh Lace or Prairie, 1 skein, minimum 400 yards
- Needle 1: US 11, straight or 24″ circular
- Needle 2: US 8, straight or 24″ circular, bring several needle sizes to adjust if needed
- Optional, but very helpful, yarn pet or yarn bowl
