A Note From Karen
Those of us who knit and crochet know the many benefits we receive from the crafts we love. However, there is much more to this story.
After reading the article, In Mindful Knitting, It’s the Journey, Not the Scarf, in the Wall Street Journal, I began digging deeper and discovered quite a few references to studies conducted to evaluate the effects of crafting activities.
A very brief synopsis of this research indicates that those of us who practice crafts are likely to be more successful in smoking cessation, weight loss, managing stress, eating disorders and other serious health issues. Most interesting is that if these activities occur in social settings, they may delay the onset of memory loss.
Listed below, you will find several links to the research:

A Note from Karen
My thanks to all of you for keeping Knitting Temptations such a busy shop! Your enthusiasm is both motivating & inspiring. It is our pleasure to assist you in solving problems and selecting purchases. We love to see your projects in process and completed. Please send us pictures or stop in the shop to share your work.
April is full of interesting skill building classes! In addition, the staff and I are bursting with ideas for our second Annual Summer KAL! We had a great time last year and want to carry this tradition into 2019. Details coming soon!
Most importantly, please mark your calendar for LYS Day on Saturday, April 27. Created by TNNA’s Yarn Group (The National Needlework Association), Local Yarn Store Day is an opportunity to celebrate fiber artists and to show support for small brick-and-mortar yarn shops. This year is the second annual LYS Day. We look forward to seeing you!
Be sure to read all the details below and mark your calendars.

A Note From Karen
Jingle, jingle, jingle!
Gift-giving time is fast approaching!
Stop. Breathe. Rest. Be easy on yourself.
Many of you are working hard to finish a gift for a loved one. Maybe you can’t meet that gift exchange time frame. Don’t worry! Wrap the present up with a bow and enclose a card that promises to finish the gift after the holidays.
But the main thing I want to say is enjoy these days – whether you are shopping, baking, wrapping, crafting, cleaning or socializing. Be in the moment. And know that Knitting Temptations is here to help make your holidays festive!
We have a shop that is full of gifts for knitters – Yarn Bowls, Building with Lace class, Addi Clicks, Project Bags, Laine magazines, Gift Cards and of course, YARN!
We have suggestions for quick and easy-to-knit projects including mitts, cowls and hats. Just ask!
To round out the year, be sure to check out our Aran Holiday Ornament and Holiday Sweater Ornament classes.
December 31 from 10am-3pm, we will be hosting a “Ring in the New Year” open knit. I’d love for you to come! Bring your leftover holiday treats to get rid of…ahem, I mean, to share! Bring a friend. Spend the day with other knitters doing what we love.
May your days be merry and bright,
Karen

Friday, October 13 through Sunday, October 15
Knitting Temptations hosts a Weekend of Color with

JANINE BAJUS

Don’t miss this exciting learning opportunity when Janine spends the weekend at Knitting Temptations leading her signature workshops on color theory and Fair Isle knitting. Join us for one of these phenomenal classes, or immerse yourself in an entire weekend of colorful learning! All classes occur during the weekend of Friday, October 13 to Sunday, October 15. Keep reading for workshop descriptions. If you have any question or wish to register, please call us at (614) 734-0618.

NOTE: A 8:00am continental breakfast as well as light snacks will be provided for our students each day of the weekend. Students are encouraged to pack a lunch (microwave and full-sized refrigerator available for use) or enjoy one of the many delightful Dublin eateries within easy walking distance of the shop.

SPECIAL PRICE of $400 is extended to those who wish to join us for ALL THREE WORKSHOPS!

Color Outside the Lines:  Fair Isle Tam/Hat
Workshop fee: $150 – Tam kit included; other supplies extra
1 day: Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm (hour lunch break at noon)

This workshop is ideal for knitters who want to explore Fair Isle design, but are hesitant to start from scratch. Students select one of 7 colorways & receive a classic Fair Isle tam or hat pattern. To see the effects of color change, knitters will begin by working a series of swatches. Students will learn how color is arranged traditionally in Fair Isle designs. Janine will demonstrate the steps to complete the tam/hat chart in a way pleasing to the knitter.

Prerequisite: Some experience in 2 color stranded knitting and knitting in the round.

Supplies needed:

  • Yarn: Tam kit (provided in class), contains enough yarn for swatching and 3 to 4 tams (7 balls, plus 1 mini skein)
  • Needle: 24-32″ circular in US 3
  • Sharpened pencil
Homework: None
Maximum: 24 Students

Choosing Colors for Fair Isle Design: Working from a Source of Inspiration
Workshop fee: $225 – Yarn and Tam pattern included; other supplies extra
1-1/2 days: Saturday, 9:00am – 4:00pm (hour lunch break at noon), continues Sunday, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Join us for a day and a half of inspiration! Janine will discuss color theory and possible sources of colorwork inspiration. To understand the various interpretations, students will knit a series of swatches and choose their colors for knitting exploration. After analyzing the results, students will work with the tam/hat pattern, and Janine will demonstrate the processes of adding colors to a motif. By the end of class, students will have motif swatches and be ready to select yarns to create their own Fair Isle tam/hat.

Prerequisite: Experience with 2 color stranded knitting.

Supplies needed:

  • Yarn: For swatching (provided in class)
  • Needle: 24-32″ circular in US 3
  • Sharpened pencil
  • Photo, magazine picture, scarf or fabric that inspires you
  • Optional, but recommended: 3-in-1 tool (available at Knitting Temptations)
Homework: None
Maximum: 21 Students

Magic Ball Knitting: Serendipitous Color
Workshop fee: $75 – Yarn included; other supplies extra
1/2 day: Sunday, 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Wondering what to do with the odds and ends of the wonderful yarns accumulating in your yarn basket? Creating a “Magic Ball” is a wonderful way to put them to great use!  In this class, Janine will teach how to arrange random colors in a way that looks intentional and not scrappy. Students will create a magic ball of yarn that is ready to knit the item of your choice with unpredictable results. Janine will discuss stitch patterns that will showcase the magic of your yarn ball.

Janine’s handout will include several patterns including a cowl and a stranded cap.
Prerequisite: Some experience in 2 color stranded knitting and knitting in the round.

Supplies needed:

  • Yarn: For creating the magic ball (provided in class)
  • Needles: 24-32″ circular in US 3 and US 4 for cowl, OR
16″ US 1 and US 3 plus US 3 DNPs for stranded cap
