This clever design by Caitlin Hunter incorporates beautiful stranded knitting worked entirely in the round to create a cozy sweater/poncho hybrid that is meant to be worn oversized. Knit from the top down with minimal shaping and NO SEAMING!

Techniques students will learn in this class:

  • Yarn Over short rows
  • Lifted increase
  • Reading colorwork charts
  • Trapping floats with 2 and 3 colors
  • Russian bind off

This intermediate project is appropriate for students who have previous experience knitting in the round (including with double pointed needles or Magic Loop), stranded knitting, and reading basic charts.

The pattern is written in 2 sizes; both are VERY oversized:
Size 1 will fit XS-L
Size 2 will fit XL-3XL

Supplies needed:
  • Yarn: DK-weight in 4 colors –
Main Color – 800 (1100) yards
Contrast Color 1 – 230 (320) yards
Contrast Color 2 – 230 (320) yards
Contrast Color 3 – 200 (280) yards
  • Needles: We recommend addi® needles for their superior flexibility of the cables and extra pointy tips.
US 4 (3.5mm)
– 16″ and 40″ circular
– DPNs, if you don’t intend to use the Magic Loop technique for the sleeves
US 6 (4mm)
– 16″, 24″ and 40″ circulars
– DPNs, if you don’t intend to use the Magic Loop technique for the sleeves
  • Stitch markers
  • Darning needle
  • Row counter
  • Smooth, fingering-weight waste yarn
  • Scissors
The shop sample is knit with Rowan Felted Tweed DK. We recommend a NON-synthetic, NON-superwash, mostly animal fiber yarn for this project. Other suitable yarns are Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok, Cascade 220, and HiKoo Kenzie.

Please purchase your supplies prior to class day. There is pre-work for this class.

Class Pre-work:

With smaller 16″ needle and MC, cast on 96 (120) sts. Join in the round, making sure your sts are not twisted. Place a marker for beginning of round. (This marks the center back.)

Work 1×1 ribbing (k1, p1) for 8 rounds.

Bring your pre-work, one ball of each color of your yarn, and the larger 24″ needle to the first class. Bring also your “toolkit” (stitch markers, scissors, row counter, darning needle, etc.)

You may register for classes in person or by calling the shop at 614-734-0618 during regular business hours. We require that you make payment in full when you register.
