Have you been thinking about learning stranded knitting (the technique used in Fair Isle knitting)? This traditional technique is used to create intricate-looking patterns with multiple colors. The lovely Dark Shines cowl, designed by Amy Gleixner, is a sampler of classic Fair Isle motifs. It starts out with short floats (color changes) and then works up to longer ones, making it a perfect project for those new to stranded knitting!

This class will focus on the basics of two-color, stranded knitting with two hands, knitting in the round, and chart reading.

Supplies needed:

  • Yarn:  165 yards Main Color (MC) and 110 yards Contrasting Color (CC) worsted weight yarn
  • Needles: 24″ circular in size US 7 and 24″ circular in size US 5
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers

Shop sample knit with Rowan Pure Wool Worsted, one ball of each in two colors.

Please purchase your supplies prior to coming to the first class. There is pre-work for this class.

Class Pre-work:  Using smaller needle and the MC, cast on 145 stitches. Join in the round, and work knit 2, purl 2 ribbing until piece measures 1.5″ from cast-on edge.  Switch to larger needle and knit 1 round.

You may register for classes in person or by calling the shop at (614) 734-0618 during regular business hours. We require that you make payment in full when you register.
