Cast On for the Olympics!

The Summer Olympic Games officially begin July 27. Do you love the Games? More to the point, do you love to KNIT while watching the Games?!

Support your team as you CAST ON FOR THE OLYMPICS!

 Select from the classes below and get ready to root for your favorite event/athlete/team while you knit!

To register for these classes, please stop by the shop or give us a call at 614/734-0618. As a courtesy to our teachers and other students, we request that you make payment in full for classes when registering.


Rest your tired feet after your victory lap…

FELTED SLIPPERS
$50 – pattern included; supplies extra 
Teacher: Brian Howard
 Class level: Intermediate

We are no longer knitting grandma’s slippers! Step into a fabulous felted ballet slipper with button embellishment that form-fit to your feet! During the knitting, you’ll learn about shaping. Brian also explains the felting and embellishment process.

Students will need to know how to knit and purl as well as do simple decreases. Supplies needed include 330 yds. of worsted-weight yarn, US 15 needles, 2 buttons (approx. 1″ each), and darning needle. Please purchase your supplies before coming to the first class.

Session A – Mondays, 1:00pm – 3:00pm

KIDS BEGINNING KNITTING
$45 – ALL supplies included
Teacher: Elaine Sparks
Two 1.5-hour classes
Class level: Beginner

Beginning Knitting for Kids! Learn the basics of knitting — cast on, knit, purl, and bind off in this class. Time for practice in between classes helps to reinforce learning. We provide the needles and yarn to learn and practice.

Students must be at least 9 years old, and our class will be limited to 6 students.

Thursdays, 1:30pm – 3:00pm, on:
Class 1: July 26
Class 2: August 2


Keep your muscles warmed up…

INTRO TO MAGIC LOOP — TUBE SOCK LEG WARMERS
$25 – pattern included; supplies extra

Teacher: Kristen Bucci
One 2-hour class
Class level: Easy

Make these fun leg warmers while learning the magic loop technique (circular knitting on one long circular needle). Handy to know and great for replacing all those sticky points of DPNs! Kristen has adapted the Tube Sock Leg Warmers pattern to fit a child and has some tips to make just about any size!

Supplies needed include 330 yds. DK-weight yarn (gauge: 6 sts per inch) for main color, 100 yds. DK-weight for contrast color, US 4 circular 32″ needle. The samples were made with Elsebeth Lavold Cool Wool.   Please purchase your supplies before coming to the first class.

Wear your team colors…

INTRO TO STRANDED KNITTING
3-COLOR END PAPER MITTS
$25 – pattern included; supplies extra

Teacher: Megan Bohlander
One 2-hour class
Class level: Intermediate

An excellent first project for a novice colorwork knitter. Worked in the round, with basic shaping techniques, Tubular cast-on, and Tubular bind off. These mitts can be knit to fit hand circumference Woman’s Small (6-6.5″), Woman’s Medium (7-7.5″), or Woman’s Large (8-8.5″).

Supplies needed include 2 or 3 colors of fingering weight yarn (gauge = 8 sts per inch) to total 360 yds., two sets of 5 DPNs in US0 and US 2 (2.5, 3).

RUFFLED EDGE WRAP

Teacher: Megan Bohlander
One 2-hour class
Class level: Intermediate

This pattern from Vogue has been incredibly popular and it is deceptively simple to knit. Megan will get you going by teaching how to do short-rows with the wrap and turn technique.

Supplies needed include approximately 660 yds. of aran (gauge: 4.5 sts per inch) yarn, size US 9 circular 24″ needle, and it is VERY HELPFUL to have coil-less safety pins. Please purchase your supplies before coming to the first class.

One of the latest trends in knitting is creating jewelry. Join Megan as you turn a simple I-cord into a fabulous necklace to show off your favorite pendant (a gold medal?).Supplies needed include 50-70 yds. aran-weight yarn, and US 6 and US 8 needles.
